Although I dabbled with knitting as a youth, I learned how to crochet just a year and a half ago. I was compelled to start crocheting when I spotted a beautiful graphic granny afghan online. I loved the modern bright colors paired with the hexagonal shapes. I printed out the pattern and spent the next few weeks "de-coding" the language of crocheting. Thank goodness for youtube! I spent hours watching one tutorial after the next.
I eventually finished the granny afghan five months later, after much trial and error. I probably should've tackled a simpler project (like a scarf!), but I am very pleased with how it turned out. I am also glad that I invested in quality yarns. Crocheting gets a bad rap from all the scratchy afghans out there; I wanted to make sure that this afghan would get used.

i agree re quality yarns ~ seems so much work to have it not usable.
