Artists at work

Aug 31, 2011

I finally took advantage yesterday of the movie setting on my camera.  Here's a 30 second video of me working on my latest mixed media piece.

One day I might try a fast motion time lapse.  I recently discovered this video of artist Mary Ann Wakeley at work.  And then there's this incredible video of French artist Jean-Pierre Blanchard painting a oversized portrait of Roger Federer in 4 minutes!  [I have to say that the orchestral rendition of St. Elmo's Fire makes the video even that much more entertaining.]

Blanchard's painting sold for $20,000, all going to charity.  Maybe I should take up speed painting.

I didn't realize you use an xacto knife too! very neat application. The piece looks beautiful by the way - I love seeing those colors in your work. Can't wait to see the whole creation!

I don't see your video...just a blank box with no play button or anything. am I doing something wrong? I really want to see your process! :)

Janelle, try this link to my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cathymcmurray/6099462946/in/photostream

Otherwise, it might have something to do with plug-ins or blockers(?). Any techies out there?

these are fantastic! thanks for this post. i watched them with my 3 year old who had developed a 'thing' about drawing, like he was too worried about not being able to do it and always wanted someone else to draw for him. straight after watching he went to the table and drew 3 fast, super confident drawings! just what he needed to see :)

really cool! is that ink over acrylic and then you scrape it away? Just curious. Your work is lovely.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. I will definitely try to post more mini videos in the future.

We Three 3, yes, the work is ink and acrylic, and then I use an xacto knife to cut into the layers.
